Lagoon-bison began in a small garage studio in 2018, founded by two ceramicists who shared a vision: making pottery accessible to everyone while honoring the craft's rich heritage. What started as occasional weekend workshops has grown into a thriving community of clay enthusiasts across Canada.

Our name reflects the unexpected beauty found when natural elements converge. Like the meeting of land and water, our studio brings together people from diverse backgrounds to share in the transformative experience of working with clay.

Ceramics cannot be rushed. We encourage our students to embrace the slow, deliberate process that transforms raw clay into meaningful objects. This patience extends beyond the studio into daily life.

Sustainable Materials

Our clays are sourced from Canadian suppliers who practice responsible extraction. Glazes are mixed in-house using non-toxic formulations, and we recycle all usable clay scraps in our reclaim process.

Community Connection

Every bowl holds potential conversations. We foster connections between participants, creating networks of makers who support each other's creative journeys long after workshops end.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe everyone carries creative potential. Our role is not to impose techniques but to guide discovery. Each instructor brings a unique perspective shaped by their artistic journey, from traditional Japanese methods to contemporary sculptural approaches.

Classes balance demonstration with hands-on practice. We make mistakes alongside our students because failure is integral to learning. That lopsided mug often becomes someone's favorite piece.

Technical proficiency matters, but we prioritize the experience over perfection. The rhythm of the wheel, the texture of clay between fingers, the anticipation of opening a kiln—these moments define our practice.
